Coffee Cup Stains is delighted introduce another talented artist from the Philippines—ms. Abi Dayacap! *applause* and I am proud to say that Abi is one of my friends since college in UP (University of the Philippines) Diliman.

Aside from arts and vectors we also share the same passion for Korean films and John Lloyd Cruz  (a famous actor here in the Philippines) *giggles*. Abi has been kind enough to share us her experience and insights in designing.

Hi Abi! thank you for taking your time in sharing us your passion for the arts. I’m curious though, what made you become a designer/graphic artist?

I always loved drawing ever since I was a kid. I think that made me become what I am now. I like to draw fairytale princesses and princes doodles on our walls. I used to stare at the TV for hours just to copy my favorite cartoon characters. But for a period of time, it became just a hobby because I was too busy trying to survive college life. I rediscovered my love for arts again when I finally realized that running after frogs is the only fun thing I did when I was a Bio major and then I decided to switch to Fine Arts. That is the time I started to hone my drawing and designing skills.

Since you mentioned that you’re not enjoying bio, i wonder what is your favorite and least favorite thing about designing?

I think the favorite and least favorite thing about designing is using technology. Technology gives you the opportunity to explore and to make the job easier but at the same time it becomes restrictive at times when I’m too comfortable using such tools. Another fave thing about designing is to think of ideas and creating things without being bothered by deadlines. 😀

Haha! So true. Could you describe to us your typical workflow as a graphic artist?

Workflow? Well, most of the time (when I’m in a sane state or when I have enough dose of coffee) After researching about the project, I start the project with sketches. When I’m happy with it, I scan it and execute it using a vector program or photoshop.

What is your favorite source of inspiration?

From people’s experiences and mine. I take inspiration from everything I see.

Lastly, if you’re a photoshop or illustrator tool what would you be and why?

Magic Wand tool! Because it is magical :D! Heehee.

Somehow i knew you’re going to say that. haha! Again, thank you so much for giving us your time. God bless! 🙂

Hey guys, if you think Abi’s work is totally awesome you can visit her cute website here and her blog here.
